Just Tennis Raises Money for the USTA Serves Foundation

The Rhondda Community Tennis Courts have gotten a lot of use this summer out of the Just Tennis Community. This Labor Day was no exception. We hosted a successful “Tennis Olympics” and tournament for the 11-15 players while a 10 and under round robin was going on simultaneously.

On this hot, humid holiday, everyone was in good spirits and came to play. The 10 and under players had some great rallies and the parent/player volunteers were a great help to ensure that this round robin went smoothly. In the end, Madie won the most games. Madie, Maahir, Taran, Samhita, Abby and Sindhura all played well and got lots of tennis in! Here are 2 of our most enthusiastic students. A special thanks goes out to Abby for her extra donation to the USTA Serves Foundation.

The Tennis Olympics was a fun-filled, intense hour and a half of live ball drills as well. I always tell our players to tune into the US Open now that its on frequently. And when they do, they should watch the footwork of the players. The split steps, the quick adjustment steps, the anticipation. A lot of these players are at a point in their games where if they master that, they’ll achieve a whole new level of tennis success. Although the tennis balls weren’t that lively (it was the last of my old balls), the footwork was, and it made for some fun games of 105, Team Singles, Burn, Ping Pong, Wipeout, and Racquet Quickness.

Then in our 11-14 Round Robin, we had some solid matches (Sidd fought hard in his loss against Jay), but in the end it was a battle of the siblings. Jay and Rupa battled it out, with Jay channeling his inner Rafael Nadal to take a close 3-2 decision.

Thanks to everyone who came out! The players, the parents, and the volunteers. It made for a fun way to spend the holiday (before the rains came and washed away all the tennis in NYC).

Your donations were greatly appreciated as well. The USTA Serves Charity raises funds for developing tennis and education programs for underprivileged children within the Middle States Section, and I’m proud to be running the New York City Marathon as a part of the USTA Serves Team.

I’m looking forward to more events like this in the future. Lots to look forward to! Some great tennis to be played at the US Open, our Fall JTT season entering full swing this week, and lots more marathon training. See you all on the courts!
