Just Tennis Hosts “USTA Serves Fundraiser Clinic and Raffle”

A great night of tennis supporting a great cause.

On October 18, 2013, the Rhondda Community Tennis Courts played host to yet another great night of tennis. 7 Junior players came out to enjoy a live ball “Tennis Olympics” format of play, 4 adults enjoyed some drilling and instruction, and 2 standout 10 and under players got to play a supervised match in the chilly Fall air of Southeastern Pennsylvania.

It gets dark unbelievably early these days, but we were prepared! The Rhondda Homeowners Association was nice enough to let us rent their boardroom, which we used for a raffle (featuring USTA Middle States gear and a free private lesson), pizza, and refreshments.

All the proceeds from this clinic and raffle went towards the USTA Serves Foundation, which supports tennis programs throughout the country that utilize a combination of tennis and education to help make a difference in the lives of America’s youth. To date, USTA Serves has awarded more than $16 million in grants and scholarships to people and programs throughout the country in order to provide at-risk and underserved youth with greater opportunities.

Congratulations on the big winners tonight. Abhinav won the raffle (earning him a free lesson with me this week), and in the “Tennis Olympic” live ball competition, Rupa’s team narrowly edged out Jay’s team in a closely contested competition that was as fun as it was intense. Also, Madie edged Samhita 6-4 in the girls singles exhibition.

Everyone coming together on a chilly yet beautiful Friday evening was very much appreciated. The clinic ran smoothly, the love of tennis was effortless and contagious throughout, and in the end, we raised over $260 for my USTA Serves Marathon experience! It’s events like this that make us want to continue hosting family tennis events.

The race is coming up on November 3. Check out my Marathon Blog to keep up with my training.
